Dong Lai (pic) is curently T.D. Lee Chair Professor at Tsung-Dao Lee Institute in Shanghai. Until 2025, he was on the faculty at Cornell University, and was the Benson Jay and Mary Ellen Simon Professor. He received Ph.D. in physics from Cornell in 1994, and was a postdoctoral fellow at Caltech. He joined the faculty of the Astronomy Department at Cornell in 1997. His current research is in theoretical astrophysics, focusing on compact objects (neutron stars, black holes and white dwarfs), exoplanets and astrophysical (particle and fluid) dynamics in general.
